Mni Krk-pr

What is "Mni Krk-pr"? Meni Krk Per are Ancient Egyptian words for "to moor a boat", "to build", and "house", respectively. There is no direct translation for the word wedding but that and for a good reason. The Ancient Egyptian's way of society and the way they see marriage is not so different from the present time. Except for the fact that they don't have a formal ceremony for an actual wedding. There is only a piece of paper with an agreement between a man and the father of the woman who is to be the wife. What happens is more like an accepted domestic partnership; the woman moves in with the man and then they are considered husband and wife. So a man "moors" his wife into a "house" that they are "to build" or that is already built. Moors, of course, Egypt is famous for the Nile River where Egyptian life basically survives and evolves. It is only right to make a reference to a boat in their lifestyle, marriage or not.

Funny how this seems like my marriage with my husband, Jumbo. We weren't really wed until March this year. Like the Ancient Egyptians, we lived in together. After six years, last March 14th 2013, we were welcomed by the modern society as Mr. & Mrs. Bongay in a thematic ceremony. You can only guess what our motif was. Yes, Ancient Egyptian.

I just love the art and architecture with which Ancient Egypt is known for. Not to mention their religion. Anything that is rustic, gold and has hieroglyphics in it sets my imagination into motion. Thankfully, while I didn't have the opportunity to employ the magical world of Egypt to my debut (18 year-old bash equivalent to Sweet 16th), Jumbo welcomed the concept for our union. That and many other stories related to Ancient Egypt and why Jumbo looks like an everyday Ancient Egyptian, not to mention his regal Pharaonic bearing, are for another day's story telling.

In the meantime, please enjoy the first photo we made available to the public.
We were wed in the morning of March 9th, 2013 in the Roman Catholic tradition and separately on March 14th, 2013 in an Ancient Egyptian-inspired gala.
